Actually, unless the trans has scattered, there's no reason to change the filter - especially on a sealed system. Hooking it up to a machine that removes the old fluid and replaces it simultaneously with new fluid is the way to go.

One further question Tracey. How dependable are these oil change places? Since there is no dip stick, how do they get the same amount back in as they take out?

Unfortunately, most of your quick lube places hire un- trained, minimum-wage workers to do the work. Checking the fluid isn't difficult but making sure that it's full takes a little time. There are proper tools for filling the transmission and during a refill, the engine has to be run and the fluid level rechecked more than once. The trans pan has a plug within the drain plug. The fluid is pumped in through the center plug until it runs back out. It's a PITA without the right tools. I Just filled an explorer that split one of the trans cooler lines at the radiator. I refilled it but couldn't save it. They ran the vehicle until it stopped moving. What a mess under the truck!

Yes, I know the procedure, and have done it before. Just getting to the age where I would rather pay someone rather than placing it up on jack stands and doing it myself. Had my daughter's 99 services years ago by one of those "quickie" places where they suck out the old, heat up the new and pump it back in. It had a fill tube though for checking. After a ten minute drive home and checking the level, I had to add about three quarters of a quart. With no fill tube, I'm leary.

Will be revealed on Sunday I'm going to do the switch drain fluid pulled can wipe it out replace the filter and the gasket and do it myself I've already tried once in the freaking rain stop me from you being able to do it glad I didn't get too far in and have to put up with the rain haha
