2002 Ford Explorer started a little knocking passenger side front of motor. Knocking worse now and oil pressure gauge fluctuates at idle

Asked by Theodore Aug 17, 2015 at 10:13 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What could it be.  Hoping I change oil and the oil pressure sensor and I might be good.   Wife not sure if it was fluctuating previously or not.

Is it a 4.0 engine? If so it is a SOHC design. There is a cam chain for both sides of the engine. Could e the tensioner. Have a mechanic check. If it is the rear one, the engine has to come out of the vehicle to repair.
