Door Ajar, Dome Lights, Annoying Beeping

Asked by Caleb Mar 27, 2017 at 12:31 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 2002 Explorer XLT. Everything is
fine, but my door ajar light won't turn off regardless
of all closed doors. As I drive, the car attempts to
lock itself but only results in the dome lights,
sporadic beeping, and door ajar light to go crazy,
but in unison too. You can tell the system detects
an "open door" and tries to lock it, but it's not
working. Don't know if its a security issue, but it is
annoying. Please help. I have a video of it. It starts
going crazy at like 15 secs.

May be with one of the door jam switches. Locate each switch in the door or door jam, and check each one by pushing on the stem like the door is closed to see if you can isolate one of them.

I have tried that and no luck, I've researched the problem further and found that it's the driver door that is having that problem. Some ball, spring, and wire getting stuck down in there so I'll take some WD-40 to it

If this issue involves the dome light & the "door ajar" light & maybe remote mirrors won't work, it is most likely a broken black ground wire between the driver's door and the dash.
