Swapping an engine for an older model engine

Asked by Speeddemon23 Aug 29, 2021 at 02:11 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: General

I own a 2002 Ford explorer with a dead engine. I'm trying
to find a good engine to replace it and found a 4.0L V6
from 1999. My current engine is a 4.0L V6 from 2002. Will
these engines be compatible to swap?

My 4.0 in a 99 explorer is an OHV engine. I'm sure yours is a SOHC engine. Some's came with the SOHC engine. Check to make sure they are the same.
