steering wheel rotations

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Am I losing my mind?  I've had my 1993 ranger mini step side for just over
3 yrs.  I drive it everyday so I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with it.  My
scandalous A-hole x has restored a wasted Mazda which, I know are very
similar to my truck.  He has switched out parts but denies it.  I drive our son
around in this truck so safety is # 1 concern.   When I was backing my truck
out of driveway I noticed tons of play in the steering wheel.  It goes around
5 and 1/2 times (rotations).  Is that normal?  Also, Isn't there a lever on the
steering column so you can adjust the steering wheel?  Conveniently, the
owners manual, schematics, diagrams are gone.  I've got a ton of ?'s but
these are the latest things to occur since I've been gone for over a week,
giving "someone" perfect opportunity to play "pick-n-pull" with my truck.  So
I'm reaching out, hopeful that someone can tell me whats up.

Thank you Jim, for your answer. So, basically, 5 and 1/2 rotations is a little excessive? I started digging deeper and found a weird rubber hose that's connected to the steering column(left to right or vise versa), just underneath the steering wheel. It was never there before. I've got so many ?'s and I'm not sure what to do because I'm scared to drive it so I've been borrowing a car. It's become a real pain in the ass. Thank you for your help Jim! cheers!
