Is it safe to drive if the front CV axle breaks??

I have a 2006 4wd suburban ant the front CV axle
was clicking and when I was about 40 miles from
the house it made a popping sound and I didn't
hear anymore clicking and drove it back home ! Is
it safe to drive it if the front CV snapped??

Most probably the boot ripped and dirt got into the joint and grease is now all over the underside of the car. It will be safe to drive over to the garage for repair but not long term as the joint will fail at some point not allowing the car to move.
