Do you mean that the loop on the hood has worn away? Replace it.

The hoods that I have seen has a U shaped bale that the latch holds onto. Is it possible to attach a piece of metal so the latch has something to hold onto?

no it doesn't have that, but I have a feeling that it will soon have something along those lines........ heading to parts store and the hardware store in the am! also looked in the parts books didn't see anything that resembled mine so, I saw a loop but that was the other hood release catch.... which seems to be holding for now! Thanks you sir!
