Why does my truck bog out.while.im.driving? 03 silverado 1500 2wd

Asked by zackmayfield96 Jan 26, 2014 at 08:53 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When im driving, my truck has a little
hesitation. Not for long bit just a quick drop
in.rpms. tonight I was driving and it dropped to
1000 rpms and pressing the gas did nothing.
Finally it caught back up with the driving rpms.
Also, every now and again, it just dies after I
start it. Any help?? Thanks guys and gals.

The pumps are weak in these trucks. As Tuff4x4 said replace the filter. It's cheap and should be changed anyway. If that doesn't help buy or borrow a fuel pressure test gauge. It's painful to hear about someone changing the pump when it still had some life left. TPS sensor?

@ Michelle. Your truck is a lot different than the one in the question. Need more info to help, speed doesn't help. How does it run at idle, how does it run in neutral with rpm. I would assume it's bogging while your accelerating then runs smooth under less load at highway speeds. I'm leaning more towards a fuel issue and not ignition but the ICM's (Ignition Control Module's) are prone to failure. Your truck will have the throttle body injection system and your either running too lean or too rich. Does the truck smell like it is flooding while it has no power. I believe your fuel pressure should be around 12 psi +/- 2 psi. Have you tested the pressure, what is it at.

@ Michelle. If the pressure is low check the fuel filter, check the pressure regulator (part of the throttle body) and check the pump if you haven't already. If the pressure is to high check the pressure regulator and the return line back to the tank. If the pressure is good check the injectors, they may be plugged, damaged or stuck partially open. The spray pattern should be strong and even while running. Ensure that they do not spray while the engine is off but the key is in run (fuel pump at pressure).
