Does anyone know why there would randomly be no power to a Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ truck?

Asked by Paige4545 May 26, 2015 at 11:02 AM about the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes when driving down the road the radio will make a sound like you would unplug an audio jack from
speakers that are loud.  When this happens the dash lights will flash once and the radio will go black and reset
itself.  It will come back on and work fine.  The truck runs fine no problem while driving however, when you shut
the truck off there will be no power to anything.  No power seats, cannot lock or unlock the truck, no lights, cannot
start the truck etc.  At first I thought maybe the battery was dead but that was not the case.

The next morning the truck randomly had power and started right up.  Researched the problem and thought maybe
it was a fuse.  Changed the 175 mega fuse and the truck radio did not make that noise for a while (maybe a week
or 2).  Then the truck did it again in a parking lot.   Decided to take the battery cables off and wiggled them some
and put them back on and there was power.  Happened again after work one day and wiggled the key in the ignition
switch and the power suddenly came back.

Took the truck to a GM dealer and they could not find anything wrong.  They tried replicating the no power situation
but it didn't work.  They drove on rough roads, smooth roads, short distances and long distances and it didn't
happen. The no power situation happens randomly.

Thinking maybe ignition switch, electrical cable problem or bad ground on the battery cables.  Anyone have some
ideas or have the same problem?  Anyone know if there is a recall for this truck?

Sounds to me like a bad battery connection or bad ground somewhere. You'd think a dealership would look for something like that, but that's not always the case. If not that, I would start looking at relays or the body control module.
