PLEASS HELP WITH SOME SUGGESTION

I recently had a 1994 Range
given to me, however it is
making a ticking noise and
when RPM'S are u higher it
seems to sputter/cut  out. I'm
not exctly sure how much of a
pwer loss it has , due to the
fact i don't know what it had
before the problem. It almost
sounds like a lifter problem
from what I've  been told. But
i was just wanting to reach
out and get some
suggestions...Thank  you..

What engine? How many miles?

Sorry for the delay ,it has the 2.9 and approx 154,000 on it...
