i have a 94 ford explorer when i get up to 60 mph it starts shaking very bad what could cause this??..

out of balanced tire,bent wheel,worn U joints in driveshaft,lockout in tourk converter gone bad if driveing in OD.

Mine did that excellerating around corners. found out it was the steering rack.

While they have the drive shaft out-have them check balance --weights missing,or may be bent...

Had a 96 which started to do the same thing. My daughters 99 also. Check the front end and found the ball joints (self lubricating) were shot. If that is the case, and you are capable to doing the work yourself, rebuild the entire front end. Might as well, as replacing the ball requires the removal of the torsion bar (if suspension is the same on a 94) Biggest expense is the purchase of the control arms as the ball joint of pressed into the upper arm. If there is a machine shop in the area that can replace the ball and bushings, to that route. If you purchase everything new it will cost a little over 600 bucks in parts plus alignment cost for a DIY'er

My answer earlier turned out to be incorrect. The shuddering around corners was the power steering pump and line which were both leaking. Fixed it instantly. The vibration at speed as it increased was the u joint at the rear. They replaced both since it was all apart and it now runs perfectly. Goal cost for both repairs at he mechanics was $990.
