Jeep Wrangler starting issues

Asked by Sheri Aug 25, 2015 at 12:49 PM about the 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Jeep Wrangler made this weird
engine sound when I tried to start it.
Almost like it was going to start but
wouldn't.  Dash lights and radio
come on. I turned the key off and I
and by the 3rd try it starts. That was
about 3 weeks ago. Today it did the
same thing. By the 3rd try turning the
key it started. What could this be?

The battery is about 3 years old and the cables appear to be fine I guess I always thought a starter didn't go slowly or with warning but just one day dies. This is the second time in a month that I've had this happen then start like nothing is wrong. This is typical of a starter going bad? I just want to be sure before I pay to have something fixed only to find the problem is still there a month later. Thanks so much for you input.

have the battery checked...3 years is a while....that will eliminate the starter.
