Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1981 vette with stock 287:1 rear end gears, would like to use a 1980 differential with stock 307:1 gears (3 series) and put in 392:1 gears. will this work?

Yes but you might consider an aftermarket set-up. Stronger and more reliable. many on the market out there. OE exterior is or should be the same, the interior is the only difference and it's the gears. Race cars use a "quick gear exchange" set up if you want to change gears to fit your moods.
