When I build my 69 Vette's engine, I went full street cam with a lot of lift and duration. Later when an internal part let go, I rebuilt the engine. During the blueprint faze, it was found I had only 0.001 inch clearance between the piston at TDC and the valve fully open. I had to go less lift, keeping my flat-head pistons, to keep it from disintegration. So if you go bigger cam, make sure it works and has the right clearances. The engine builder had a custom cam made just for my set-up. I lost 10 HP, but after 8 years, it still runs strong. Just putting in a cam is not the answer either. Heads, valve train, pistons, and even rods may be in order to handle the additional pressure.Don't forget headers, exhaust pipes that are larger and mufflers that are non-pressure restricting. I also bolted on a stronger clutch and a new 5 speed transmission that can handle high HP. Be smart, be safe, and enjoy.
