Anyone here needed a new catalytic converter for less than 100k miles?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 RX350. Only 69K miles. Was told I may need a catalytic
converter. Not sure I trust the mechanic. I know I need a second opinion so
thought I'd ask here.

Get another price and check the emissions warranty that came with your car.

Warranty was up last March, unfortunately. :( I plan to go to another mechanic if the lights come on again. They replaced an O2 sensor that they said was showing on the codes they pulled up. Hopefully that's the only problem. Just paranoid waiting for the check engine light to come on again. I really just wanted to know if anyone else with the same car experience the same issues. Thanks!

Be sure and read the emissions system warranty if you did not as this warranty is a lot longer than the warranty for the engine. The federal mandated warranty is 8 years/80,000 miles.

"May need" is a pretty weak response... unless you're using dirty gas and starting stopping your car all the time I would highly doubt needing a new catalytic converter yet. Are you noticing a drastic lack of power? I did replace one but it was for a 1988 Suzuki, my current Tahoe has 300k and the original exhaust.

I read it, it's 8 years from first use, which was March 2009. I bought it used in 2011. I don't notice anything wrong at all, that's what was so weird. I'm guessing (hoping) it was wrong. Thank you!
