What is a good replacement engine for a 1989 Hilux 4x2

I have an 89 Hilux 4x2 1.8l Y2
engine.  Can I put a 1998 3RZ
engine straight in.   Australia.

I am not familiar with the Y2 but if you could swap in a 22r you would have a lot more power and torque.
