Transmission late to engage especially in drive

You must look at the dipstick with the motor running in park with the handbrake set...High for a hot transmission low for the cold reading....inside the hashmarks between the two is where you want to be...if low would look for a transmission fluid leak...inspect with a tissue~ be nice to know what car we are dealing with here....some do not have dip sticks anymore~

check the fluid level, like The Judge says- how long since you've had this tranny serviced?
