Car will not (sometimes) engage in Drive

Help!!! When my daughter puts her car in drive, sometimes it takes several tries
to get it to engage. Once engaged, its fine. The transmission is somewhat
'weird' on this car. LOTS of noise!!!!

When I'm driving my Ford focus a 2009 it drives fine but then it starts shaking and then it wants to turn off what is it
