There are a few reasons why automakers put the battery in the trunk: It creates more room under the hood, where it can be a tight fit for the increasing amount of necessary electronics and components. Also, it’s a way to create better weight distribution to increase handling performance, as the battery can weigh a good 40 to 60 pounds. Even though the battery is in the trunk, there are remote terminals under the hood that you use to jump-start the car if the battery conks out. If you have a trunk-mounted battery, always check your owner’s manual for the proper jump-starting procedure.

you have less space in the trunk and if the battery leaks it will do damage to carpet or you belongings

You do not need to worry about the carpet in your trunk. As I'm sure anyone who owns a newer charger knows.

I would be more concerned with gasses such as hydrogen that can leak from batteries and cause explosions

Does anyone know for a fact if you can jump start another car from the battery in the trunk of my 2014 Dodge Charger or should you use the mounts under front hood? my husband says to check owner manual??

Apparently, you can jump start from either place. Never worry about carpet or belongings in the trunk........the battery is located below that surface and is vented outside!

Your rear seats can fold forward, allowing trumk access from inside the car. You can then pull the release handle on the trunk latch insude the trunk. If your car is locked, use the emergency key that is stored inside the plastic ignition key fob to unlock a door.

If you have a push button start you still have a key option start. Pop off button and wala key hole. Key pulls off fob at end.
