ignition won't shut off

I turn off key and engine keeps running. I did notice the cruse control wasn't working or wouldn't down shift out of overdrive even from a dead stop

Ignition switch may need to be replaced. Check YT for vids on replacing that, it bolts in under the lock cylinder for most makes. Cruise control and not downshifting is most likely a separate problem, may involve TC lockup clutch, kickdown or ?

Certain stored OBDII codes can disable the cruise control, fix whatever that is, and it will work again. I agree with Ken, ignition switches are common to go out. The YT vid that is out there from A1 Auto is too complicated and time consuming. Just remove the bottom shroud of the steering column..
