where to hook up test light to check to check to check fuses?

Find a good ground. Parking brake cable bracket is usually a good spot. Also, if you still can't find a good ground get a piece of wire with a gator clip and hook it the negative cable on the battery and then hook it up to the test light. Make sure the ignition switch is on with key on engine off. Make sure the fuse lights on both sides. If no light illuminates on either side it could be a bad ground for the test light or just a fuse that is ground fed and not positive power fed.

Most fuses have two contacts so you can use a fuse tester to check them or you can simply pull the fuse and look.
