can i unhook catalytic converter and still drive it an be ok?

Technically yes, but why would you want to do that? If you live in an emissions county, you'll fail inspection. The car will pollute way more than it is supposed to. You're going to have the smell of gasoline permeating pretty well if you ride with the windows down. You'll have a check engine light. And, last but not least, it's not great for your engine and exhaust system.
