Oil pressure pretty much is where it should be, ( but), my engine keeps over heating.About mouth ago dropped oil pan and cleaned screen out but still wants to over heat.Should I replace the pump or checkrods

you are looking in the wrong area. your radiator and coolant are where the trouble is. you may have a stuck thermostat. I would replace that and make sure your coolant level is correct.

Anytime your engine runs over 230 it kills your thermostat. Also, if it’s cheap or old replace your lower radiator hose with a GATES hose or Factory lower radiator hose. I had highway over heating problems and it was the cheap hose collapsing from being sucked together at higher RPM highway speed. I couldn’t figure it out because everything was new but it still over heated. Replaced the lower radiator hose and it has been fine ever since. Make sure you get all the air out of your cooling system anytime it goes low or you drain it to work on it. Look on the XJ forums to learn how to do all this. Itvwill save you a lot of blood, sweat and tears. No since in reinventing the wheel, others have already done the leg work, let them teach you.
