My 1998 Subaru Legacy outback won't start. Hooked it to the computer and it says it's the crank shaft sensor. Bought a new one and put it in, but that didn't fix the problem. What to try next?

Battery always first. Next the starter, next the ignition switch, alternator and fuel pump. Does car make turn over sound at all? If you touch the starter selonoids two screws together with a rubber handled screwdriver you can start car from there also while keys turned to start position.

All the above work, sprayed carburetor cleaner in the engine and it still doesn't run. Electrical?? Hey, I'm originally from Wisconsin too! Live in PA now.

follow all the wiring to the crank sensor. a shorted wire will give the same code.

check you plugs and wires as well if you didnt already hook the comp back up again see if its still calling for a crank sensor if so then trace your wires looking for shorts etc also check your relays

I turned my 97 Subaru legacy 2.5gt off. When I tried to restart it everything was dead!!! It was like the battery wasn't hooked up. I took the keys out and walked in the house. I looked outside and the tail light were on and the front amber lights were on. I tried to start it and nothing. I cleaned the battery posts but it didn't help. I unhooked the positive cable and put the key in the ignition and turned it on in order to hook the positive cable up. It started just fine, however the running lights are still on and the dash lights are blinking! I turned the engine off and the running lights were still on and the dash lights were still blinking. I had to unhook the positive cable to stop this process. Can anybody out there point me in the right direction??? 1 Answer
