they are the worst cars if you buy a ford buy anything but that my niece had sooo many problems and some guys i know that know cars said never buy one good luck

if you don't drive it into the ground they are pretty good ..

drove mine for 4 years, never had problems. jumped it up a bank across the street and rolled it down another bank and through someones yard. towed it home, hit the fuel cut... and yeah she still ran...

I got a 1995 LX with 284,000 miles, it has been quite reliable, of course I keep good maintenance, for example oil change very 3,000 miles, fuel filter change every six months, timing belt and water pump every 70,000 miles, water hoses and serpentine belt every 4 years, just did steering work to it as normal wear and tear. So far I have replaced normal wear and tear items, like brakes, tires etc. Still has the original alternator and starter in it. Going on a third clutch, transmission still the original (5 speed standard). So far it has never let me down. I love it. and you can't beat the 35 mpg on the highway.

I bought my 1998 Escort LX new . I had to replace the altenator and that is the only thing that went out . Other than that all I have done is the timing belt , clutch and a tune up every 100 thousand and right now it has 217 thousand miles . I replaced the rotars at 200 thousand just to be safe not due to any problems. It has had two clutches and timing belts and had the water pump replaced with each clutch as it's right there, but other than general maintenance it has given me no problems and will still pull 40mpg doing 70 on the open road so I would say it's been pretty dependable over all . The paint is not real good as it sits in the Texas sun all the time and the interior is starting to show some wear. She still runs good and has plenty of power for me and does just fine in traffic, I suppose I may have just been lucky but I would certainly buy another one if this one ever gives up on me without hesitation .

my 98 se has 226000 on it and runs great like any other ford if you take care of it they run almost forever

Don't buy it those cars have so many problems mostly fuel pump or stalling no power don't do it.
