There is a low pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank and a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the frame. The low pressure fuel pump sends fuel to the high pressure pump where it is pressurized and sent to the engine.

No many people do this as it eliminates the two pump crap. I personally am replacing each of mine because I am a stock guy and didnt want to have to bypass my external high pressure pump.
