can toyota 5 speeds be swapped from solara to rav4

Asked by neveraround2 Nov 17, 2016 at 01:06 PM about the Toyota RAV4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 98 rav4 with 5speed.
5th gear issue of course.
Have a 99 solara 5 speed donor car.
They have the same toyota part numbers for:
transaxle case, same differential case, Per Toyota parts list interchange
same clutch friction plate        Per Toyota parts list interchange
same 21 spline cv joint       Per Toyota parts list interchange
and engine/trans mount pads drilled in same locations (solara has both top and bottom holes, rav4 only needs top)
one is 2.0 L  solara is 3.0 L
Solara tranny has different ratios, OK and is heavier duty inside.  (know because 5th gear .375" thicker and takes wider needle bearing.

If you did your research and the parts have the same part numbers I would say that they will fit.

That is what I was thinking; however, I was hoping someone on this site had done the same swap. Not just with the two vehicles involved but any toyota vehicles in the mid 90's thru 2000 range. Is shifter throw the same? Pattern is. Thanks for the reply. John
