Back light fuse burns everytime i go back

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

sometimes i have to try twice to put reverse gear and everytime that happens that, the backing ligth fuse burns.

I have the right bulbs and use the right fuse.

Could it be a sensor on the transmission or in the shift stick?

any ideas?

You should change your transmission oil ASAP.This will solve your shifting problem..and about the burning of fuse you have to show it to an automobile electrician.

Thanks Habib, I guess that narrows it down to the clutch since I changed the transmission oil like 4 months ago. Now you mention the clutch, last time I was speeding I noticed that the fifth gear doesnt go smothly after 2300 rmps :S

pull the bulbs and put dilectric grease on them. chances are condensation/corrosion is the problem. and as far as ford manual transmissions go, that normal. the owners manuals used to say return to neutral and depress the clutch again.

if the transmission doesnt shift very smoothly at higher rpms, your synchros might be going bad, particularly if you slam shift gears, and dont double clutch.

Thanks Jeff, I dont know the specs of the synchronizer on that 2003 3.8 L but it takes like 2 seconds to go from 2250 rmps when it immediatly peaks up to 2500 when i press the clutch and then returns to 2250 (all of this without pushing gas) I guess I need to do my research. This is the second car that I own that has a computer on it LOL. Im trying to catch up. thanks again

i had a 96 contour that used to rev up while in neutral, there was a fix on contour.org that involved putting a copper pipe cap, with a 3/8" hole drilled in it, inside the air tube that goes from the air intake inlet piping to the crankcase.. worked well to fix the throttle hang. not sure about the 3.8's i have a 4.6 liter these days.
