If you will count shelby Cobra's it is the new Shelby GT 500 Super Snake, it has a reported 725+ HP, plus a built suspension, along with other upgrades. its 0-60 is 4.4 sec, but with traction issues through first and second

Currently the 2000 Cobra R is the fastest. 5.4L rated at 385hp/non super-charged. Slightly faster than the 2003-2004 Cobra

What about the new Shelby Mustang ?? It is rated at around 502 hp ! Or you have the King Snake , not many made but fast as hell. But what the mags. have been saying is the Shelby is the fastest production out of the factory Mustang ever produced. I did like your answer though . Do you have some place a person can find out for sure ?

Yes the super snake is a wicked fast peice of equipement but its not really a Mustang . I guess the chassie is but that is about as far as it goes . I think if I remember right they are using a fast back Mustang then doing some crazy modifications . It is without a doubt a wicked piece of machinery . Do you know what motor block it has in it ?

the Super snake is really just a tweaked and dialed up version of the 5.4l 4v v8 they use in the GT500 and its not really a ford thing... its a aftermarket setup basically that shelby is doing... so its not really a 'production' mustang

fastest around the track will probably be the 2000 cobra R but the new GT 500 would be a interesting battle... as far as fast in a straight line goes... line up the 2000 Cobra R a 03 or 04 cobra terminator and a new GT500 ill bet the R gets to 60 first, the GT 500 gets to 100 first, and the Terminator will hit the fastest speed because the GT500 will run into aero problems and the R will run into ratio issues... Id say your 04 cobra would be the fastest if you do a exhaust swap, rear ratios to 3.53, and swap the supercharger pulley...

All i know speaking with owners of the GT 500's they are pissed about the HP numbers given on the spec. sheet. My 04 cobra spec sheet said 390hp stock. I had it on the DYNO and it ran out at 380WRHP stock before my upgrades. The GT 500's dont put nearly the same numbers as the spec sheet claimed. I was racing a bunch of them at a local mustang roundup and the 03-04 cobra's were winning all of the drags by a lot.

The reason the spec sheet gives higher horsepower numbers than the numbers that are being produced is because the number on the spec sheet is horsepower at the flywheel. Also Ford made a mistake with the horsepower rating in the 03-04 cobras, they actually produce more than stated, however they were so far along in the production of said cobras that they chose not to revise the spec sheet error.

Hey Zack. I'm not saying your wrong but the reason they were rated at 390 was that at the time they were being built there was a big jump up in the insurance premium at 400hp. So they made a car that produced about 415-435 hp And said it had less to keep the cheap performance image that mustang has grown so popular for.

Now that i think about it i remember reading something about that. i should have included that in my post. i will know better next time.

i have a 79 mercury capri with modifications, i can dog walk a 04 mustang cobra.don't get me wrong i loooove ford products, but like i said modified. me personally i would like to see ford come out with a mustang or a 4 wheel drive capri to compete with this fiat menace called the hellcat. don,t know why they didn't come out with v10 gt shelby.
