You have an electronic automatic transmission. In "POWER" mode the on-board electronics changes the transmission shift points to allow the engine revolutions to increase (higher rev) which is where the engine typically has the most power available. In "COMFORT' mode the on-board electronics changes the transmission shift points such that the transmission shifts gears at lower engine revolutions (low rev). This allows for smoother, quieter transmission shifts and better fuel economy. If you have a CV transmission (its does not shift between gears) it is similar in that it will allow the engine to rev higher (more power) before it changes the transmission ratios (a.k.a. shifts gear).
