The air filter is very easy to replace on a 2003-2005 Mazda Tribute 6-cylinder engine. Under the hood and next to the battery look for two metal clips attached to the top edge of the black air box and filter holder. Flip them down, wiggle the unit toward the engine to make room for removal and replacement of the filter. Be sure to insert the new air filter with the elements facing the same way as the one you removed or the air box will not seat itself. Re-clip and you are done. I am not sure of the procedure for a 4-cylinder.
