How do I shift out of park if the O/D light is flashing and transmission light is on?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son and I replaced the water pump and now the car cannot shift out of Park.  The O/D
light is flashing along with the transmission light.  Does the computer need to reset or did
I do something wierd?

Sounds like a connector has gotten jostled loose...to reset the electricals disconnect the battery and press the brake pedal five times to release any latent charge, then put it back...if the problem is electrical in nature, this should reset it...if it's a mechanical connection...back track your moves to find the unplugged goodie~

The switch that controls the shift indicator and can cause other issues is right on top of the transmission and under the hoses and water pump. It can become corroded from water and battery solution. It may need to be replaced or cleaned, or maybe the connector came loose while you were replacing the water pump.
