What would cause my 29 model A exhaust pipe
between the exhaust manifold and muffler?

Got to be running too rich, unspent fuel going out the exhaust and burning in the tailpipe. Might want to join a Model A or car restoration forum, something like H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com) caters to this type of topic.

F_O_R, thanks worked out fine, retimed engine it ran fine thanks for the advice. Car hasn't run since 2000
