instructions on 3 speed column change please

hi strange as it may seem I have replaced the plugs points condenser and repaired the low tension feed wire in the distributor,changed all the slave cylinders and the rear shoes.
i have fired it up bled the brakes and freed off the clutch.

only problem that i have is i cant work out where the gears are !!
I have found reverse and 1 other but i dont know which one but it dosent feel like first gear
can anyone help out with a basic instruction for me ?
and any net avaliable source for diagrams and manuals would be great

the lever closet to the firewall is 1st and reverse,the lower one is 2nd and 3rd,reverse and 2nd should go into the up position when in gear,you have 2 linkiged on the tranny top goes into upper lever bottom goes into lower lever.

With a 3 speed column, you have to move the shifter into the neutral position and push forward and then up that will be second. to get to third just push the lever down from second. the shift pattern is an h shape if that helps.
