wipers won't stop 2008 town and country

Asked by LyzChan Aug 25, 2016 at 12:41 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The windshield wipers came on on their own and
won't turn off, I replaced the fuse and it didn't help.
If I remove the fuse it stops but I can't use the
wipers. Would replacing the actual motor solve the
problem or is it a wiring problem? Also when my
wipers went haywire it also knocked out my turn
signals.

its not the motor because its working, it sound like a wiring issue...

Take a look at the wiper relay and the fuse box they are in - maybe some water got in there and is affecting wipers and turn signals.

There's this long part on the roof which has the tv and stuff. Its like a long rectangle. Open that area and you might find wires chaffing around there. Have fixed 2 of these with the same type of problem. Sometimes the cluster acts up and you get weird lights turn on and off. Worth a check. I have a third one now with the same problem, but this one didn't have wires chaffing in the usual place. :/

From what research I've done, it sounds like the Body Control Module is failing: http://www.fixya.com/cars/t11024607-2008_dodge_grand_caravans_windshield My wife's minivan has been having this problem on and off in wet weather, I'm looking into whether that's a trigger for the module somehow, but that's my best guess.

Ok I got this figured out. At least on my 2008 Town and Country. With the vehicle shut off remove the 30A fuse for the wipers. Now turn the car on and put it back in. It resets the fault. If you put the fuse back in while the vehicle is off, the problem will persist.

I would love to have Warrant_Williams solution work but didn't for me on our '08 Town & Country.

I went to try Warrant_Williams solution but had no luck. Then I noticed buildup on the positive terminal so I unplugged the battery, cleaned the terminal and connected it again. The wiper issue (the whole handle functionality wasn't working) got fixed!
