Asked by Maureen Aug 26, 2017 at 11:02 AM about the 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car won't start, wheels and steering wheel
are locked. Bought a new battery. Didn't
help. I had no warning on my dash that my
car needed a repair for anything electrical
in the days prior! This is a safety hazard to
all owners of this vehicle! I took it to
Mercedes and it cost me  over $1200. For
this! It was the EIS system! If I was driving
on a highway and all of a sudden my key
was not recognized my car would have
shut off and locked up just as I explained
here!! There would have been a multi car
pile up with injury and possible death as a
result of this!! I've read many stories on
here with the same problem but they are
not seeing the big picture here! I just gave
you the BIG PICTURE!!! THIS IS A SAFETY
HAZZARD WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL
CAR! STOP Coplaining and call the
National Motorvehicle Safety Number so
we can have a RECALL ON THIS PART!!! I
drive my Grandchildren in my car and if
they had died because of this OMG I'm
telling you!!!  It's a matter of your car not
recognizing your key at any given time
when this part goes and there is NO
WARNING so you can have it looked at!!
This is a matter of Life And Death Here
People!!! Call Now! We can have a recall
and get our money back too.

Mercedes and BMW's are expensive plastic money pits. Anyone who works on cars will tell you this. They are garbage and are for show of wealth and naivety of a reliable machine. When you make high torque gears out of plastic, you are not thinking right. To replace one strut is $1300 just for the part is ridiculous. Save money and stress, do not buy this junk.

That is not an answer to this!!! I'm talking about a STAFTY HAZARD HERE! I did not buy this car! It was bought by my deceased husband for our 34th Wedding Anniversary!!!! So I don't want to hear any of your ridiculous responses! My husband is DEAD NOW!!! So quit your sick responses to me! It's paid off and I don't have anything else to drive! This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM TO ALL OWNERS IF THIS VEHICLE!! Aparently YOU DONT OWN ONE SO PLEASE KEEP YOUR SICK COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!!! This car should have a RECALL ON THIS DANGEROUS DEFECTIVE PART!

I do not own one because I work on cars and know how unreliable these are. I will never own one because of this.

Maureen did you ever find an answer for this problem because I have same cq r and the same thing has happened to me

I was wondering if that could be my issue but my power works randomly the lights turn on in half my car earlier without the key even in the ignition
