2004 Chevy Silverado running bad

truck was running fine then all of a sudden  started  driving like  crap .  when
going down the highway it will just slow down to 40  like i took my foot off the
gas  I can pull over put it in neutral and rev it up to whatever rpms  over and
over  I put it in drive and it spits and sputters but gets back up to speed then
does the same thing like I've taken my foot off the gas but i can have the
pedal to the floor and not going anywhere

You need to scan for the OBDII error codes from the OBDII port under the dash. OBDII scanners are very cheap at Walmart. Report the error codes to this web site after you have retrieved them for further advice.
