Agreed. Either the fork that engages the throw-out bearing has broken (uncommon but possible) or you just aren't getting enough movement from the hydraulic clutch (more likely). The clutch is the weak-link on the RX-7. Don't side-step it - it can't take it!

Before you start pulling the transmission out, rebuild the master and slave brake cylinders. The plunger in the master cylinder degrades after a while and will allow fluid past it.

Can you get a rebuild kit for either one these days? Usually you have to get a remanufactured or new unit. Ahhh the days when we would rebuild starters, alternators, master and wheel cylinders. These days, they're refurbished in places like the Philippines, are cheaper to buy and last half as long with a so-so warranty.

Tracy, Sorry, I meant to say rebuild the Master and Slave CLUTCH cylinders. Anyway, I believe you can find rebuild kits for these parts. That's how I used to do it. Search all the car parts places, i.e NAPA, Auto Zone, etc. It is an older car so you might want to search online for rebuild kits too. Hope this helps...Rob...
