gasoline leaks out when i make a right turn or when I fill up the tank. Is this not normal?

I filled up my bug and noticed gas leaking onto the ground from a hose located under the front left fender. It stopped after a minute so I thought I had overfilled the tank. I also noticed that when there is more than 1/2 tank of gas, when I make a right turn I smell strong gas odors, I believe it is leaking out then too. Is this normal? Is this some sort of vent for the tank to prevent vapor lock or something? I have heard a lot of people say all bugs smell like gas, but I only smell it when the tank is more than 1/2 full.

You need to check your fuel return line there should be a leak there if not check the gas tank for cracks
