At the rear of a VW Beetle "frame" I have read to place a floor-jack at the "horseshoe". OK, but I'm not sure where to place my floor-jack at the FRONT of the car for safe, damage free use?

I own a 99 model Volkswagen beetle. I park my car at an incline where I live and it's been dying when I pull up these last few days. Can anyone give me a clue as to why? 2 Answers
The first time it died we thought it was out of gas, but it said I had a quarter tank, and the other times it just died and the battery light came on as soon as I pulled up.
