I have a 1989 Dodge Ram 50 and can not figure out why the transmission will not engage just installed new clutch plate throw out barring and clutch cable there seems to be a lot of play in the clutch arm

it wont go into gear? and when you push in the clutch(to the floor) does it make any noise? if it does your clutch is out of adjustment. and is the shifter a internal or external style? if it is external with rods. the shift linkage could be binding or out of adjustment
