will a 2.4l engine from a 2000 v70 fit in a 2004 s40 1.9l

Asked by oldvolvo Sep 23, 2015 at 07:26 PM about the 2004 Volvo S40

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 v70 with a good 2.4l engine and a 2004 s40 with a bad 1.9l turbo.  Can I swap?  Will everything work?

Probably not. The 2.4 in the V70 is a 5 cylinder, and the 1.9 is a 4 cylinder. Very similar engines, but they probably aren't interchangeable. Those cars also have different transmission, IIRC. S40 has a 5 speed, V70 has an older 4 speed, assuming the V70 is automatic.
