97 golf grinding noise

Asked by edoubek Mar 30, 2011 at 07:58 AM about the 1997 Volkswagen Golf

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I get a grinding noise when I put the car in drive. It goes away as it warms up, but
the grinding comes right from where the gear shift is located. Is this low fluid or is
my trans going?

I had a Dodge pickup truck that used to grind when the trans was still cold. Went away once it was warm just like you say. It is possible that your fluid is low but as far as the trans going it doesnt sound like it could be.
