High acceleration whilst driving

Asked by Zephyr_4010 Feb 15, 2017 at 11:01 AM about the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: General

Whist driving my automatic jetta 1.6 acceleration
reading goes high as if I'm in neutral. When I stop
and put it in Park, the acceleration continues to
about  50 Rpm.  Now the car struggles to start. It
seems as if it is flooded and can smell the fuel
when I open the bonnet. What can be wrong?
Please help

I think your transmission is slipping. Check the ATF level but your transmission is probably due for a rebuild. The rich smell might be a leaking fuel injector.
