Car sounds weird

My lights turn red on the RPM Gage
at #5. Car been running great. Then
sounded weird.  The lights turn red
@#5 on the RPM Gage.

If you rev the engine past 5,000 rpm the light comes on? This would be warning you that it is time to shift up. This is known as the "redline".
