Traction control on that vehicle displays "Trac Off" to indicate a fault condition, and ABS uses the standard "ABS" indicator when it senses a fault condition in its system. Neither one displays any indicator when functioning properly. Nancy, I can't find the phrase "system control active" anywhere in the owner's manual, are you entirely certain that is the exact message shown, and if so, please double-check the year and model of your vehicle.

if it flashed and then went away, it was more than likely the traction control active message, and that will come on when your wheels slip and then go off once they stiop slipping- it is to warn you that the road is slippery and you should slow down.
