1997 Buick Lesabre, No start, No crank, No click, No dash lights

Asked by Lesabro Feb 24, 2019 at 05:24 PM about the 1997 Buick LeSabre

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This has happened a few times, initially turned off while driving. No instrument
lights, no engine cranking, dashboard totally dead. It came back to life
randomly about a minute later. 3 times now I have not been able to start it
without doing some random jimmy-ing of some wiring and relays under the
hood (not really sure if it fixed the problem but it did eventually start).
Sometimes all the instrument lights come on then go off to start with. Overall
problem: I put the key in no lights come on, no engine cranking. The battery is
great. Any ideas? Thanks!

So just to clarify: Are you recommending I replace the ignition lock cylinder or the ignition starter switch? I have the Chilton manual, and sources online explain how to do the lock cylinder but I cannot find any info on the ignition starter switch which appears to be a bunch of wires... Thanks again for you help and bearing with me!
