I own a 1992 ford F150 Custom with the same 302 5.0L and the E4OD automatic i have towed a 6000lb z71 chevy with trailer with no problems, my truck also has the stock 8.8 rear axle, the only thing i would recommend before towing is check your fluids in the trans and rear axle dont want anything to fail prematurly, it is fairly simple to change out. And my OEm ford manual states 9500 maximum tow wieght, also check your hitch, i wouldnt recommend the bumper as a tow point, if your truck has a hitch below either welded or bolted on, it should have a lable stating what class it can tow i.e. 1-5 1 being 1000 to 2000 lbs and so on the higher the number the more you can tow, i have a class 3 hitch states max is 7000 lbs
