trouble starting when warmed up

I have a 1996 Ford F150. It starts fine when it has been sitting overnight or for a
couple hours. However, if I run to the store and shut it off then try to start it back
up, i litterally have to hold my foot all the way down on the gas petal and after
about 15-20 it will finally start, has a hard time starting but will. then the smell of
gas is unreal. Not quite sure what this could be?

I have the same exact truck. Have you checked your gas line from the pump, is it cracked? That motor is probably EFI. y' shouldn't have to hold down the gas pedal. Carburetor days are over with. how old is the battery? how tight are the cables? Starter getting the proper cold amps?? that's what I'd be looking into
