Sputtering and hesitation

Asked by Dustin05151982 Jul 05, 2019 at 05:12 PM about the 2002 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Ford f 150 4.2L V6 started sputtering and
running rough. Had a mechanic diagnose it needed
a whole new transmission. Got it and he swamped
them out along with new sensor on top of the
tranny. Still running rough he studied it for a week
and said it was the camshaft sensor. Ordered and
replaced that... Still running rough and sputtering
really bad at take off but will work up to 60 mph...
Also gear shifter kinda loose and flashing o/d off.
He said it needed to reset the computer but feels
to me like a fuel pump, or not hitting on all
cylinders, or clogged exhaust???? Any input would
be awesome as I now have truck back and on my
own with it? Also not a mechanic by any means
obviously. Gonna do a lot of research just thoughts
this maybe a good place to start!

Nothing like replacing a really expensive part, THEN testing for what might actually be wrong with it.
